Natural Basis Of Order
Literature, like any art-form, is limited only by its creator. Some texts leap out at you in a vibrant kaleidoscope of vivid description, emitting a plethora of emotion; other works demand much less and detract from the focus or impetus with redundant, lackadaisical prose. Natural Basis Of Order cultivates the latter into one compendium of seedy, pornographic filth. Sexuality is explored in its myriad devices and the book can be divided into three identifiable groups: pseudo scientific, perverted fantasies and (Peter) Sotos-inspired rants. Instead of insight, A Commodity Called Sex (ACCS) merely incites; its sole purpose is to shock. From ACCS's flawed arguments for people to empathize with pedophiles, to procuring children for said predators and onto why rape victims get what they deserve, this garrulous book describes, but does not understand its purpose. It merely skims and paraphrases where it should investigate and detail. To someone new to transgressive writing, it could be deemed audacious and possibly revolting. However, to the jaded smut aficionado it is preposterous and sophomoric. The publisher, purports that the book was created with the assistance of numerous, anonymous authors. This statement is suspect due to similar qualities intrinsic in many of the chapters; ACCS appears to have been penned by two or three like-minded misanthropes trying to out-gross one another. Much of the style, semantics and colloquialisms are rigidly identical in many of the pieces; most are written in a defining, resolute idiom. By digesting their words, it is apparent that these are individuals who do not fully comprehend the mind of a sociopath, but would like to think they do. The timid prose are laced with typical misogynistic euphemisms that postulate not what women/victims think, but what the writer wants them to think. The equation of Women = Whore = Victim = She Deserved It, is a tired dynamic in dire need of an upgrade. You do not glean any information from ACCS, merely a glimpse into the perverse fantasies of lonely, introverted writers honing their skills with misogynistic harangues and purposely impudent texts.
