Author: Craig Shaw Gardner
This first original book based on the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series on the SciFi Channel, takes place twenty-years before the events there, with a Young Tom Zarek. He's working with a group of space scavengers who come across a lost research base on a forgotten planet, a place where humans and Cylons continue to interact as if the first Cylon War never happened. It seems as if these Cylons, referred to as 'Companions', are different, but we learn they do have a secret. There's also a subplot involving Adam and Tigh and how they met - and how, aboard their new assignment on the Galactica, come across a battleship full of Cylons who are using humans in a terrible way. It's sort of the intermediary step between the machines and the human-looking Cylons seen in the series.
This book fits well as a precursor to the series.
