Author: Peter David
This STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION novel directly follows the story/continuity from RESISTANCE, in which Captain Picard encountered and defeated an attack by the zombie-like Borg, who now want to destroy, not assimilate, mankind. The aliens have realized that mankind poses too much of a threat and needs to be eliminated. Now there's just a 'dead' Borg Cube spaceship left behind, a ship which may very well be haunted.
The story concentrates on Admiral Janeway, who is an expert on the Borg from having nearly defeated them during her captaincy of VOYAGER, and Seven, who was once a Borg. It seems as though something is 'alive' on the ship and it starts taking over people. In fact, one who is taken over is Janeway herself. This new attack turns out to be more of a threat than them trying to create another Borg Queen, as in RESISTANCE, and Picard - and the entire Federation - have to figure out how to stop the destruction of Earth, for that's where this new type of Borg Cube is heading.
Author Peter David also brings in Captain Mackenzie Calhoun, from his NEW FRONTIER series, providing more continuity in the Star Trek universe.
BEFORE DISHONOR is a good Trek book and is also a reminder that the movies - or any series - is going to be revisiting THE NEXT GENERATION characters anytime soon. The events happening here affect everyone, in a 'there's no going back', way
