This four-issue comic miniseries from Adventure Comics presents a unique idea but fails to do it justice. A gorilla named Tonus violates the most sacred of Ape Laws - 'Ape Shall Never Kill Ape', when he kills apes who are helping the humans. There is a tribe of intelligent humans who call themselves 'Taylorites' and they want to establish peace with the Ape Cities. Tonus will do everything he can to prevent this.
But in the city of Phis (Memphis) he meets a female ape named Valia, who reminds him of an old flame. He falls in love with her but she is sympathetic to the humans' cause, which is a big conflict.
As with the majority of the Adventure Comics Ape series, BLOOD OF THE APES is simply okay and somewhat amateurish in both the writing and illustration. The 'twist' ending is not believable and the apes look more like werewolves than apes (the noses are wrong). The more recent REVOLUTION ON THE PLANET OF THE APES (from Mr Comics) is far far superior.
