Author: Briane Keene
After 45 days of constant rain the world is a very different place. The novel starts with the story of one old eighty-year old man and his best friend who have survived atop a mountain, which is now an island. And giant worms are starting to come up from within the Earth, worms that want to eat them. Also living nearby is a crazy neighbor, sort of an insane survivalist who needs little provocation to start shooting at you. When some survivor's helicopter is shot down by this guy, they tell their tale, about the creatures that are coming out of the Oceans, creatures that are even more fearsome than the giant worms.
The book starts off like SQUIRM crossed with TREMORS, then veers off to H.P. Lovecraft and Cthulhu territory, which succeeds in making the story only better.
There's also a reference to Keene's zombie books, which makes you think this may somehow be tied to the demons in those novels. In fact, I enjoyed this as much as those books and look forward to a continuation of this giant monster invasion tale
Keane has definitely become one of my favorite new authors.
