Author: John Kessel
The story revolves around father and daughter con-artists, August and Genevieve, whose next mark is a rich, nerdy scientist named Owen. He's just returned from the Cretaceous with a baby sauropod. Where the story takes place is Rome occupied Jerusalem in which time travelers from the future have opened a resort and have heavily influenced the culture. In fact, such places as these are referred to as 'minute Universes', since as soon as something from the past is changed it creates another alternate universe, where the time travelers can do whatever they want without fear of changing their own future. In this particular universe, Jesus was never crucified, having been taking away to the future when he was much younger. In fact, there are many different Jesus' about in the future, from the young to the old, as is there multiple Mozarts, Ben Franklins and other historical figures.
Genevieve gets Owen to fall in love with her, yet something unexpected happens - and she actually falls for him, so much of the plot revolves their on again/off again relationship. There's also the matter of the baby brachiosaur and restless natives in Jerusalem, who parallel what's going on today.
CORRUPTING DR. NICE is one of the most unique time travel novels I've read, with unique twists, interesting characters and a good sense of humor. Highly recommended.
