author: John Everson
Newspaper reporter Joe Kieren moves from the bustle--and danger--of Chicago to the rural, isolated town of Terrel and uncovers and unspoken secret. According to Angelica, a fortune teller he's come close with, there's a demon living in the cliffs, responsible for annual "suicides", and it's taken over some of the townsfolk, namely five women who have made a "Covenant" of sacrificing their firstborn. But Angelica had managed to give her child up for adoption before the devil came calling, which causes a bit of trouble. She's taken by the other women and it's up to Joe to do something about this.
COVENANT is a well-written book and is in the tradition of THE SECRET OF HARVEST HOME or even CHILDREN OF THE CORN.
From Leisure books.
