During a physics lab accident four and a half people and a dog are hurled 65 millions years into the past, where dinosaurs still roam the Earth. The "half" the made the journey is the unfortunate security guard, who is missing his lower body.
The scientists reason that they must travel over a thousand miles in order to get back to the "pickup" point to return to their present time--and have to somehow survive the journey with stone-aged weapons they've made. They encounter North America's version of "The Raptor" (of course), a gigantic herd of Triceratops and an old Tyrannosaurus Rex. But the strangest thing is they encounter a human, some 64 million years before there were any humans on the Earth....
Both the authors are scientists, and their knowledge and description of this time period makes you feel as if you're taking a tour of the late Cretaceous. It was a very different world, much of it was covered by ocean. The book is also well written, with some unique characters, and is a fun read. I particularly enjoyed the "twist ending".
I read the book in two days. Highly recommended.
