This trade paperback collects the first seven issues of this skewed AVENGERS team led by former Green Goblin Norman Osborne. After the events of the Skrull Secret Invasion, Tony Stark has been dethroned as both leader of that team and also as commander of SHIELD. Now S.H.I.E.L.D. has been re-named H.A.M.M.E.R and a new team of Avengers assembled to keep world peace. They consist of Osborne as The Iron Patriot (in Iron Man-like armor) and imposter versions of several others. Venom is the team's Spiderman, Moonstone is the new Ms. Marvel, Bullseye is the new Hawkeye and Wolverine's son is a new Wolverine. There's also the half-sane Sentry and Ares, God of War.
In their first mission they are on a secret mission returning Doctor Doom to his homeland of Latveria. They are attacked by Morgana Le Fey, who appears from the past. At one point the Sentry rips her head off but she returns from an earlier time period. It seems as if nothing can defeat her. Then, Osborne convinces Doom that the only way to defeat her is to go back to her time period--but the two super baddies don't trust each other.
Meanwhile, the real Hawkeye denounces Norman Osborne and his "New Avengers", saying that the guy is insane and up to something. Osborne counters this by going on the same talk show and is very convincing of being a repentant, "normal" person.
This is currently the third Avengers title Marvel has out there, the others being New Avengers and Mighty Avengers. While I tend to like the other two series better, this book is a lot of fun, particularly the interaction between all these psychos.
