Author: Brian Keene
If you've enjoyed Keene's other zombie books this won't be much of a surprise, as he explores similar themes here, particularly with the zombie virus infecting non-humans. It also moves a lot faster than his other zombie novels.
A guy named Lamar, trapped in his apartment in Baltimore makes his way, with two orphaned kids he saves, to the boat docks, where they manage to escape the flesh eating crowds on an old museum boat. Aboard are twenty other survivors. As the mainland is crowded with the undead their goal is to refuel at one of the oil rigs, but there may be zombies there as well. Since they are on the ocean they think they are safe...until one of them contracts the disease.
As with THE CONQUEROR WORMS and CITY OF THE DEAD there is this pervading sense of dread in this novel. You know these characters probably aren't going to make it yet you keep on rooting for them until the bitter, dead, end.
