THE DELUGE is a creepy, end-of-the-world movie, with shape-changing slug-like aliens taking over the zombie role.
One night the waters of the world suddenly, unexpectedly rise, drowning most of humanity because it happened so quickly. Those in the tallest buildings or highest elevated places survived. Among them are Steve and his daughter Abby, who was visiting him in London from Scotland. The waters recede, leaving behind a lot of muck and dead bodies. They set off for Scotland, to reunite Abby with her mother (his ex-wife) and her brother and meet people along the way. There is Max, an African American teenager, slightly older than Abby, an elderly couple who were in Steve's same apartment building floor and an old, suicidal doctor and an angry man who is into necrophilia.
The traveling across country is difficult, as they have to walk around debris, wade through mud and avoid the violent people out there - those that have turned to murdering passersby for their food. In fact, Abby and another woman are abducted by a group of survivor-type guys who want to start breeding with them and repopulate humanity. They also happen to be cannibals.
The worst, though, are these creatures who are able to change their form into humans, creatures which are likely responsible for the flood. They use the drowned human carcass to incubate their eggs and they'll also eat people whole. The group of humans finally make it to Scotland, where Abby's brother is still alive and allied with a bunch of others who have holed up in an old school/castle. It's here that they have a confrontation with the monsters.
THE DELUGE is a fun, creepy read, like Noah's Ark meets THE SLIME PEOPLE.
