This re-imagining of the cult comic book character from the 1960's is cool and definitely builds and complicates the original origin story of Doctor Solar. It begins with the costumed Doctor fighting a Super Villain type guy in Upstate New York, who he captures and delivers to the police. A writer who is watching the news coverage on the news realizes that the super villain is a fictional character he created--and somehow what he thinks now comes to life.
Solar returns to the Atom Valley Nuclear Laboratory and explains to the director, Malcolm Clarkson, what happened to him a week before. They were doing an experiment with a fusion reaction and he got pulled into a black hole. But his consciousness persisted and he found himself united with the energy around him so that he control it by will alone. He compares it to "being connected to the control panel of the Universe". He can do just about anything. And one of the things he did was reverse a half a minute of time to repair an embarrassing moment he had with Gail. Yet that caused another problem, some other changes in reality, such as that author's characters coming to life.
This issue also reprints the character's 1962 origin story, which is also included in the DOCTOR SOLAR: VOLUME 1 collection.
