A scientist returns from the remote jungle of South America with a previously thought extinct prehistoric bird--and a horrible disease which causes the infected's flesh to drop off. It's 100% fatal--and rapidly begins to spread across the country. A scientist at the Center for Disease Control recruits Matt Kearns--and they retrace the scientist's steps in order to discover a cure before mankind becomes extinct. What they do find is a lost world inhabited by some unique life-forms, including an early form of man. There is a cure for this disease but it's not quite what anyone expects. In fact, I was quite surprised by the direction the last quarter of this book took--which completely changes the universe in which Greig Becks' characters exist. Recommended--my favorite Greig Beck book to date.
