This new incarnation of the ALex Raymond comic character has Dale Arden working for Homeland Security, Flash as college Professor (and CIA training dropout) and Hans Zarkov wanted as a suspected terrorist. In this first issue they go to confront Zarkoff at his hidden base and he's built a ship that can go to another dimension. It's revealed that Zarkoff thought he'd been working for the government on finding an "alternate energy source" and the person he was dealing with is Dale's evil-looking partner. He's really the bad guy. They escape in the ship, presumably to Mongo, where they are fired upon.
Like some recent action comics, like NEOZOIC and THE LIVING CORPSE, the illustrations resemble something from a Saturday morning cartoon, which is very cool and fits the mood. This is the best FLASH GORDON incarnation since Filmation's cartoon series from the early 80's. This is fun.
