There is a flock of ten foot tall predatory birds that have managed to survive in a remote Florida forest. But a gated community and theme park are being built nearby. At first people's dogs go missing. Then people. But it's because of a rogue bird called "Scarlet", who doesn't want to hide like they have for thousands of years. There's a young Fish and Games Officer named Riggs, who is caught in the middle between environmentalists and the developers, not to mention the two possible love interests--a woman biologist and his old flame. Things escalate when a group of militia guys are hired to exterminate the birds before they can become "protected". These birds can definitely take care of themselves. It's all very cinematic, like a very detailed movie script.
Granted, this would never have been written if it wasn't for Jurassic Park. But that said, it stands on its own, particularly in that it gives the point-of-view of the giant terror birds and explains, plausibly, how they could have remained undetected by mankind until recently. Recommended.
