written/illustrated by Bob Fingerman
I've enjoyed Bob Fingerman's novel BOTTOMFEEDER and the graphic novel RECESS PIECES, so it's no surprise that I love this new apocalyptic tale. The end of the world has happened, New York is in ruins, and Bob and his wife are among the survivors. But they're not totally devastated, as it's simplified their lives. After all, no more annoying neighbors and no more blackberries. However, at the end of the first issue they encounter one of the stapes of end of the world scenarios....the cannibals (even though it's only been a few days since the end of the world).
The characters' behavior is totally realistic considering the situation and is oftentimes hilarious. it's the dialogue that really makes this book, after all. And the author places himself--and his wife--as the main characters, which is a hoot.
I cannot wait for the next issue. If there's only one End of the World book you read this year it should be FROM THE ASHES. It is highly recommended.
