For the past ten years Dr Quest has been investigating vortexes that have been opening up around the world. He has his lab in the Florida everglades because it's where these vortexes regularly appear. While he's talking to two agents about all this, Johnny and Hadji are messing around with some flying backpacks when Dr Zin's battle drones show up-and it's one of those mechanical spiders we know from the original cartoon. Dr Zin (the nemesis of Dr Quest) is also interested in these dimensional rifts-and wants to somehow harness the power for his own purposes. He realizes too late that this entity causing them is far too powerful...
But these disturbances aren't just happening on our Earth. They've also begun on the Planet Amzot, where the Herculoids live. The vortex creature makes its appearance and absorbs the polymorph Gloop. And we learn that the creature calls itself Omnikron. As this is happening Space Ghost and the Galaxy Trio are also in battle, which opens a hole in space, which Tarra travels with Igoo, the rock ape, and Zok, the flying reptilian creature. Also joining the fight is a different version of MIGHTOR, Dino Boy, and Frankenstein Jr and the Impossibles, who are given slightly different, more interesting origin stories than the original Hanna Barbera characters. In fact, the origins of the Herculoids is explained and it makes a lot of sense and adds a different dimension to those characters.
All in all, this is an extremely cool book, taking these familiar cartoon characters into the 21st Century. Highly recommended.
