I must say that I'm not the easiest person to impress but GIRLS AND CORPSES magazine has me floored. What a great concept for a magazine! Not only does it deal with death and horror in the media such as Sid Haig in NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and Scout Taylor Compton in HALLOWEEN (in fact, they are both on one of the covers) but interviews real-life people, such as a real-life mortician who absolutely loves her job. I was sent four issues and each was as good as the other, will full-color pages and an eye-catching layout. I thought the funniest thing are the one-page fake ads like "Clubbing with the Stars" which has celebs like Oprah and Mel Gibbons clubbing baby seals, "Saturday Night Dead", which features Belushi, Farley, Phil Hartman, and "Martha Stewfart's DYING" magazine. These all remind me of those old Wacky Pack cards from the mid 70's. But the main attention getter are all those photos of babes hanging out with corpses, whether it be on the beach, on the gold course or in bed. And those corpses look real! Magazine editor/creator Robert Steven Rhine also contributes many of the articles, such as "No One Gets Out Alive", where he talks about the death of his co-publisher, who was killed by a Grizzly Bear, and "My Adams Family Memories", about meeting those actors as his mother was an actress on the show.
Yes, GIRLS & CORPSES is irreverent, most definitely politically incorrect and breaks a lot of taboos but it's an undeniable fun read and one of the best magazines I have ever come across. It gets my highest recommendation. This should be on your subscription list if you are a horror fan.
