This relaunching of a Godzilla comic-book treats it as if it's his first appearance ever in Japan. Several kids are on the beach, noticing piles of dead fish, when a huge reptilian tail emerges from the water. From offshore their fisherman father sees smoke and destruction and is immediately concerned. Then, Godzilla goes inland and tramples a city, smooshing hundreds of people. The authorities agree to dispatch the monster with a nuclear missile but this only makes him more powerful. Now he can breath radioactive fire. Basically, Godzilla is causing a very bad day, as everyone, from the fisherman to President Obama exclaims "You've got to be kidding me!"
As with most IDW titles there's quality with the cover and glossy, thick pages, but the story is too brief. It's sort of like watching an hour network show with 25 minutes of commercials. I think I read this entire issue in five minutes. I will probably wait for te collected trade graphic novel editions...
