An educated and serious study of SLASHER FILMS, focusing on 1978-1986, folks! Actually, it goes up through the current studio hits SCREAM and beyond...It's great to see the horror slasher genre finally treated fairly by author/fan Adam Rockoff. He doesn't write anything off and goes into great detail about the classics. He even likes most of the FRIDAY THE 13th movies, and it's great to see them treated right. Heck, there's enough fans around for these things, right? I'm sick of everyone bashing these classics!Anyway, this is a great reference book and a super trip down memory lane. Rockoff misses a few of my favorites, but not many. Most every classic film is discuss and not patronized. A serious look is given to all flicks and this is great fun.If you're a die-hard fan, there's not too many new tales contained in this book, but again, the nice tone and respect that the movies are given are a pleasure to read. There's also some great still photos and near the end, plenty of great stories on how movies like THE PROWLER were put together. Great to hear from some of these more obscure directors.Near the end, we see how the slasher movie, once an unheralded underdog for diehard fans, has now become a blockbuster moneymaking machine for companies like Disney (who owns Miramax and the Scream/Scary Movie franchises). The box office grosses for these post-modern slasher films are ASTOUNDING. An amazing reference book for fans and film scholars alike, GOING TO PIECES is well worth checking out.
