This 201 page novel is an expansion of Eric Red's short story of the same name that was available a few years ago. The premise is that a young Mexican woman flees her werewolf overrun village to get help with defeating the monsters. She hires a trio of wanted gunslingers. The best among them is the default leader, Tucker, who ends up hooking up with her. At first they don't believe her crazy story and assume these villains are really evil bandits. They're interested in the amount of silver she's offering for the job--and nothing more. But once they see what they are up against they have a change of heart. Other characters are introduced, such as a bounty hunter who gets more than he bargains for, an ancient drunk who met these lycanthropes years before, and the werewolves themselves and where they originate from.
It's a fun, cross-genre novel, reminding me in tone of the movie THE LEGEND OF THE 7 GOLDEN VAMPIRES (that Hammer/Shaw Brothers hybrid). It would make a great movie, of course (Eric Red wrote the screenplays or NEAR DARK, THE HITCHER, et cetera). Highly recommended.
