Author: Simon ClarkIN THIS SKIN is an eerie tale about a strange dance hall called The Luxor that seems to consume people. The individuals that have gone over to the other side are 'monsterized', their bodies transformed by the energy of this other world they find themselves in. Some have stick- like limbs or pig-like heads, others have tentacles instead of arms and huge, tulip-like mouths fitted with a lamprey-like mouth. The story revolves around three people-Ellery, a chronic stutterer who uses the abandoned dance hall as his private refuge, Robyn, a runaway who is pregnant, and a man named Benedict, who is searching for his lost love Mariah. She had walked into the dance hall ten years before and never walked out.The Luxor draws people to it as it is a gateway to another dimension. But the main question is exactly why it's doing this and for what purpose. Author Clark makes you think one thing is going on -and later on makes you realize that it's something else entirely. The primary characters are likeable, there's an abundance of monsters, both earthly and other-dimensionally, and the various plot points all come together in a surprising ending that I thought fairly unique. This is the first book I've read by Simon Clark-and I'm definitely going to be reading more. For more information on Leisure books, go to www.dorchesterpub.com
