D.C. homicide cop and psychologist Alex Cross is thrown into a whirlwind of insanity as he chases after a killer who is murdering some of the most powerful men in the U.S. Senate. An incredible mix of action, violence, and political intrigue, author James Patterson is indeed at his pinnacle with this book, which better become a movie soon! This is also the book where Cross meets love interst Christine Johnson, a character that carries over into POP GOES THE WEASEL. Their relationship seems very real and interesting, as both of their previous spouses were victims of violent crime. Part of the intrigue here is whether Cross can build a new life for himself and find a good mother to replace his deceased wife. The action comes at you like an out-of-control eighteen wheeler, including a spectacular and suspenseful scene involving an assassination attempt of the President Of The United States. You won't believe the outcome of this sequence as Patterson pulls no punches with his stories. Bad things happen to good people and the author really hammers this home in this most excellent drama. The end twist is quite a shock, showing how the killer of all these political figures is also responsible for the deaths of small children on the mean D.C. streets. It's amazing the way Patterson weaves his tales and everything makes perfect sense in the end! Kudos!
