This continues right where the 2nd Season of the television series left off, with Jake Green (portrayed by Skeet Ulrich) and Robert Hawkins making their way to Texas with the last nuclear bomb from the first attack. It's proof that this war was caused by Americans wanting to establish the new government/country of the Allied State of America. Then, John Smith, the mastermind behind the attack, contacts them and wants their help. We find out why, in a flashback sequence, in issue #4. Do they help him, as he caused all this trouble to begin with? Or can he help them win this new Civil War. They end up sneaking back into enemy territory, though the two are wanted for being terrorists.
The story goes back and forth to them and to Jericho, where we follow characters May Anderson, Major Beck and the Greens. Major Beck, who works for the occupying Cheyenne Army, is on Jake and Hawkin's side--and he's slowly converting his men to the right side. The weirdest thing, I thought, was introducing a new character--Uncle Emmett, obviously the identical twin brother of Johnston Green, Jake's father, who was killed in the television series. At first we're not sure who's side he's on. Eventually Jake and Hawkins make it back to Jericho with Smith, though they don't tell anyone who he is. In fact, they have a fist fight over it. It's then Hawkins tells Jake that his daughter is out there, in Cheyenne territory, and is worried she'll get caught in the crossfire.
The story ends on a cliffhanger, which is somewhat unsatisfying. The individual covers are great, but the interior art varies quite a bit and doesn't always look like the characters. Otherwise, this is a great continuation of the story. If you were a JERICHO fan this is a must. Recommended.
