This re-imagines Jack Kirby's original Kamandi comic, with much less impact. Here, Kamandi is a survivor in a bunker run by an artificial intelligence called "Mother". She sends him on a mission to destroy the person responsible for the second Apocalypse and he reluctantly goes on this quest after she threatens to kill him with poison gas. He meets another human and encounters various human mutants who live in the ruins of the cities. There's also Ben Boxer, a biological machine that now resembles a Star Trek Borg instead of a human who can turn his flesh to metal. This six issue mini-series is much more grim and not nearly as fun as the original comic. The cool thing about Kirby's original comic series is that there were intelligent animals that rule the future world, from humanoid rats to tigers to giant insects, giving it a "Planet of the Apes" feel. Now, we have a Road Warrior/Terminator vibe. Replacing the animals with "mutant humans" simply makes all this less interesting.
