The premise of this series of twelve best-selling books (Left Behind, Tribulation Force, Nicolae, Soul Harvest, Apollyon, Assassins, The Indwelling, The Mark, Desecration, The Remnant, Armageddon, and Glorious Appearing) by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins is best described on the jacket of the first book of this engrossing 'apocalyptic' book series: Passengers aboard a Boeing 747 en route to Europe disappear. Instantly. Nothing remains except their rumpled piles of clothes, jewelry, fillings, surgical pins, and the like. All over the world, in a flash, cars are left unmanned. Terror and chaos continues worldwide as the cataclysm unfolds. For those left behind, the apocalypse has just begun. In book number one, we are introduced to several characters whom we follow through the entire series: an airplane pilot and his daughter, a reporter, a preacher, and others In the fine traditions of THE STAND and SWAN'S SONG, these people band together with others to find out exactly what's going on and decide to do what they can in the fight against pure evil. And what is the evil? In this case, it's The Antichrist making a stand against God in the final battles of earth's last seven years with humans in the middle. The survivors must each seek out and find God themselves before they can fully enter the battle against Antichrist. (Some choose the opposite side, of course, and join up with the bad guys.) The Antichrist is an evil politician named Nicolae Carpathia who starts out as a world peace leader and later ends up as ruler of the world. Problem is, his peace tactics turn to 'global police states' and anyone who doesn't agree with him ends up being violently killed (the scenes where many are beheaded by guillotines are incredibly gross). These books are based on theology and interpretations of the book of Revelations in the Bible and I found them most interesting. They are Christian fiction, but don't let that scare you away from taking a chance on this series---I found the plotline engrossing (though a bit stretched out at times with so many books, they could have told the story in about six books just as easily) and the characers believable. There is plenty of violence for the horror fans out there (plagues, earthquakes, assassinations, resurrections, oceans turning to blood, demonic invasions, etc. etc.) and the action is over the top Tom Clancy style at times with edge of your seat cliffhangers. A highly recommended series, one that could help change your outlook and views on life if you look closely at the the reality of what the authors are talking about! Check it out, this series can be a fun addiction.
