I always remember this single issue as being the first time Marvel had monsters working together in a team to stop a common adversary. After a mountain erupts in California Johnny Blaza, aka The Ghostrider, is drawn to it. They same goes for Morbius, the Living Vampire, and Werewolf by Night, whose battle is interrupted by the weird event. There's also the Man Thing, who is transported from the swamps of Louisiana. So what do they encounter on this mountain? Well, Starseed, a golden man riding a golden horse. He tells them a story, of how many thousands of years ago the mountain was taken away into space by aliens. They humans hid in caves and eventually defeated the aliens. Now, they've returned, though Starseed is the only one remaining. They attack him, which puzzles him. When he asks why Morbius responds "We are cursed to walk the Earth as freaks and monsters! While you, in your absence from humanity, have managed to attain perfection! For reminding us of what we might have been you will die beneath our fangs!" Well, you can't argue with that. They fight him and win-and in his last breaths temporarily puts the quartet of monsters into their human forms. Discouraged, and simply reminded of being the monsters they are, they walk away in separate directions. This issue was a great idea that really should have been continued as a supernatural superhero team. Unfortunately comic readers would have to wait decades for such series as Sgt Fury's Howling Commandos and DC Comic's Creature Commandos.
