It's ten years since the Lawgiver was killed (about 500 years in our future). Alaya, the former leader of the city of Mak, is deposed by another chimp, Nerise, who sentences her to death. But Nerise is being influenced by a human, one of the mutants, Kale. Sully, the leader of the human resistance, is rallying more forces. In a flashback, we see that Golden Khan, a hairless gorilla who is wed to a Chinese human, is going to launch his force of ships on the Atlantic, to free Mak. His intention is that he wants both humans and apes under his rule, to begin a golden age. When asked by his chimp historian if Mayor Sullivan wants to rule the city herself, Khan laughs, saying a woman ruling is ridiculous. Later, Khan's queen tells this chimp to go and warn Sullivan that Khan's ships are coming. The story ends with Khan nearing Mak, Alaya about to be executed with an axe, and Sullivan's son Julian running away to meet up with the bald mutant humans. So, everything from the regular Planet of the Apes comic series is coming to a head. Recommended.
