Written & Illustrated by Bob Fingerman
The premise of this hard-bound graphic novel is that a science-class experiment gone awry causes everyone who has gone through puberty to transform into a flesh-eating zombie. It's up to a racially diverse, yet stereotypical, group of children (African-American, Chinese-American, and even a gay boy) to somehow survive and escape the school.
Some of the more humorous scenes involve Mr Elber, the mad-scientist science teacher, trying to reanimate a pig fetus, the interaction between the Kung Fu Chinese boy and African-American girl (kind of like Alfalfa and Wendy from The Little Rascals), and the Evangelical kid who keeps on preaching it's the end of the world.
I've seen the idea of just the adults transforming into zombies in THE ABANDONED (from TokyoPop) but here it's done much more for comedic effect.
The zombie violence is also more gruesome.
RECESS PIECES can be thought of as 'Do You Know Where Your Kids Are?' during a zombie invasion. Recommended.
