Part of the Alex Cross series, and this one is a spectacular page-turner, full of action and twists and turns.Detective Alex Cross is up against a bank robber that kills bank employees and their families, even if he gets the money. Known as 'The Mastermind', this guy proves to be quite a match for Cross and the FBI.Cross has a romantic fling with an FBI agent in this one and she's killed by the Mastermind as it is revealed that he has some kind of personal vendetta against Cross. All this is not resolved until the end of the next book, VIOLETS ARE BLUE, so be prepared for a cliffhanger ending when you wrap this book up!Again, we are treated to Cross trying to raise his kids and be there for his family as he fights the bad guys. This family dedication proves to be Cross' weak spot, because it gives killers like the Mastermind a way to really hurt him...This novel really smokes. Patterson is in top form here. The action is relentless. There's an awesome money exchange and chase on a train and there are three or four INCREDIBLE plot twists at the end as Cross zeroes in on the person...or persons...that may be staging these elaborate robberies and homicides. These incredible twists will keep you turning the pages to this book as fast as you can. Highly recommended, and beware, this one has extreme violence and even a scene of necrophilia!
