As you know I am a film reviewer as a rule, but I came across this new book called "The Sinner".
I have never read a horror book such as this, as it spins tales of twisted morality, the deceptions of high ranking demons, and the games such immortals evil and good can play with the fragile creatures we are as mortals. Jones writing style is written by stanza, almost like a true testament written by the damned, or blessed. You never know until the shocking end, and I do mean shocking.
The book starts as a lone soul in a dark cave is surrounded by fear, uncertainty and a mission from God itself. He is armed simply with a candle, quill and paper. He notices 7 shadows each with its own lesson and torment. And like a Aesop's fable from the maw of Hades itself this man lives and dies with each grave message and grim reality. These creatures are not monsters of Hollywood fashion, but are timeless spirits that could have easily came from the "Psuedomonarchia Daemonum " or "Malleus Maleficarum".
Mr. Jones knows his evil, and every page drips with darkness and despair. THIS is the new breed and the old all in one. Take my infernal advice, go to Amazon.com and buy this book. Forget about the mass media and what huge publishing companies tell you to read. Goddamn this was a dark book.
THIS is the true future of Horror Fiction. Except no weak substitutes.
