A construction worker, repairing the substructure of the Pentagon, is found partially eaten. It turns out to be the work of an amphibious monster created during WWII. After a few more killings within the Pentagon's walls a Seal team is sent in to kill it. But the answers as to what it is and why it is killing are held by the woman herpetologist, whose father had created something monstrous years before. The plot and situation of this book is almost exactly like the book THE RELIC but with the Pentagon substituted for the New York Natural History Museum. As an 'in joke' author Steven Harriman (Steven Spruill) names the leader of the Swat team Sizemore. Tom Sizemore was the actor who played the detective in the movie version of THE RELIC.
