The first issue of this adventure series starring H.P. Lovecraft doesn't quite cut it.
The story immediately delves into the origins of the Necronimicon by telling the story of Abdul Alhazred, its author, then skips to 12 centuries later to the time of writer Lovecraft in Rhode Island. He wakes up late and rushes to the library where he's to meet potential girlfriend Sylvia for lunch. However, once there he's distracted by a copy of that same book, which mentally speaks to him. Sylvia is pissed and doesn't want to have a meal with him and Lovecraft walks away, dejected. Lovecraft is very morose, talks about writing and is very frustrated when Sylvia goes to bed with another man. The issue ends with him having a dream of sailors and women being slaughtered by someTHING on their boat--and wakes up to find it really happened.
