Originally published in 1992, this newer, first ever hardcover version from Necro Publications contains the complete as intended opening that was cut from the old paperback. The book itself looks awesome; the simple cover design fits perfectly with this story here. Definitely the version you wanna own if you're a Lee fan. Good luck though, these were very limited, so check with Necro Publications on availability. At this time, I'd have to say Ed Lee ranks as my favorite writer working today. I wish I'd read this in 1992 when it first appeared. However, I am glad to have read it with that wonderful opening included here. How can you go wrong with a book that opens with ' They Cooked Heads.'? You can't. Detailed descriptions of some of the most repugnant and vile recipes ensue, shedding light on and hints of the mayhem fast approaching from the ancient evil society and mythos that center this story. And what a fuckin' story it is, complete with wild, strange characters, a seemingly perfect town, hot-scalding filthy sex, evil as old as heaven, and destiny to be fulfilled. Don't worry, Succubi isn't some artsy, gothic bullshit romp filled with complexities never to be understood. This is straightforward evil that will fill you with dread, excitement, and joy. Lee crafted something special here people; I shit you not. Once you get into Succubi (or they get into you I should say), you'll wanna read this through to the end. Is it gory and perverse? Of course, but this book showcases an author who knows how to entertain and keep your attention. The background here is well researched, thoughtful, and scary. The language used in certain areas adds an intensely ancient, horrid feel. It'll make you wonder about quite a few things historical and modern. It might creep ya' away from the ladies for a while too! A woman's disturbing dreams only hint at the horrors that are her destiny. The time is near. Nightmares can become real as the moon holds the key. Her life, her family's lives will never be the same. Will an unlikely, unsavory savior be able to stop untimely evil to be reborn? Will you be able to stomach the atrocities in Succubi? I hope so. It's worth it. Every horror and extreme horror fiction fan needs this book.
