On August 9th, 1945, it wasn't a nuclear bomb that devastated Nagasaki-it was a humanoid creature used by the US government, a creature they use as a weapon. This is Wraith, a stone-like, red eyed powerhouse. In the present, General Lane (father of Lois Lane) is using this "Real Superman" for his own ends-and actually has Wraith fight the Man of Steel. At first they seem enemies, then allies-but Wraith insists he'll have to take down Superman after some point because he answers to no one but himself and can't be controlled. Of course, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and Lex Luthor are all thrown in in the mix.
This 9 issue collection graphic novel was a good (okay) read and it's interesting paralleling Wraith with Superman, but I suppose I just don't like the "New 52" incarnation of Superman. It's too much like the recent movie version-looks like Superman but doesn't act like Superman.
