This new Tarzan novel takes place within the events of the first novel, after Tarzan has left Jane in America. She's going to be marrying his cousin. Rather depressed by those events and by civilization on general, he takes off on a train up to Canada, to explore, and decides to wander the North Woods of Canada. He comes across a huge crater inhabited by the descendants of a lost group of Vikings. It's also the territory of a tribe of Sasquatch, who happen to speak the language of the Mangani. There's also a young blonde woman involved, who is chased by a sinister pair of men who are basically evil versions of George and Lenny from OF MICE AND MEN. She ends up taken as a slave by the Vikings and falls in love with one of them.
This is a surprising good read and fits well within the original Edgar Rice Burroughs Tarzan mythos. It's very cool having him fighting with a particularly bad Bigfoot. Highly recommended.
