This was written by David Day and has been reprinetd many times since. Chancellor press put out the most recent edtion in 2001. The material has also been published as Characters in Tolkien. Basically, this is a manual of descriptions and drawings of every race, creature, and event in the world of Middle-Earth created by J.R.R. Tolkien. If this doesn't prove that he created the most detailed, interesting, and well though out invented mythology ever, then I don't know what will. As a guide book, this works well. If you want a little help knowing what's what in Middle-Earth, Beastiary does the trick. If you've just casually been biten by the Ring bug 'cause of the films, this book is a real cool piece to help you out and get you in a little deeper. Middle-Earth fans should own it. The text is fun and interesting and most of the drawings and paintings look awesome. What's not to love? Read it flunky!
