A villain named The Horse, who wears a horse mask, is recently let out of prison and meets with the group known as The Apocalypse 3. The city's superhero, The Navigator, has disappeared, so the villains stage a fake kidnapping of the Horse to lure him out. The Navigator does appear and tracks the Horse, through his DNA, to the Empire State Building. He's strapped to a bomb. But The Navigator saves him--for the reason that the Horse is the closest thing he's ever had to a friend. But on the way to safety Horse shoots him with a syringe that makes him hallucinate and Horse explodes the building, rambling on about how his purpose was to make The Navigator the best superhero the city could need--and that he had failed. All these events are intercut with a young boy drawing and imagining all of these events happening. Is this all in his mind or is he connected to another reality that he influences? It's an intriguing first issue which makes me want to check out issue #2.
