At first, this book was very cool, a novel that ties into both Alten's MEG series and THE LOCH. I love those books. This time, a hidden land is discovered beneath the Antarctic ice, a huge inland sea that contains prehistoric monsters, from giant albino seals to plesiosaurs. Then came the halfway point and the story veers into a completely different direction that involves not only aliens but time travel and life on Mars. Wasn't this covered in the last FOOTPRINTS OF THUNDER book? Even if it's not the most original idea that would have been okay if it flowed with the first half of the novel, which is does not. What began as a fun, entertaining read turned into a complete mess that really pissed me off. What a disappointment.
