A dangerous virus is released by an archeological dig and starts killing off mankind. No one is immune. A group of scientists, though, isolate themselves in the mountains in order to produce a cure. What they end up doing is cloning people from the same time period as the virus to see if they carry the immunity. These clones' growth are accelerated so they are adults. But the virus has dangerously mutated over the past two thousand years. And the individuals they cloned come from the same year that Jesus was supposedly crucified-and some people believe one of the clones is indeed the Big J. As the human population is decimated the infected survivors (thousands of 'em) make a pilgrimage to the scientist's lair for a showdown, believing that their savior has returned. There's some cool ideas in this book. The youngest scientist, when still in her teens, created a half frog/half human clone. The clones from two thousand years ago retain all of their memories up until their deaths. And the story is epic, a la Stephen King's THE STAND. If you enjoyed Jeff Long's previous book, THE DESCENT, then this will not disappoint.
