Child's Play (1988) young Andy Barclay sees a commercial for a 'Good Guy' doll on TV, and asks his mother for one for his birthday. At work, Andy's mom and her friend discover a peddler selling one for a low price, and she buys it. What she doesn't know is that the particular doll contains the spirit of Charles Lee Ray, aka 'The Lakeshore Strangler', who died at the hands of police the night before and had transferred his spirit to the doll by voodoo. That night, Andy's babysitter is pushed from their 5th-floor window to her death, and only young Andy knows that 'Chucky' - the doll - is responsible for that a death and a series of murders that follow. Worse than that, the soul of Charles Lee Ray is trying to get out of the doll's body - and take over Andy's...

  • You'll wish it was only make-believe.
  • Andy Barclay has a new playmate who's in no mood to play.
  • This doll is killer.
  • Chucky is one mean S.O.B.
  • Something's moved in with the Barclay family, and so has terror.
Movie Quote(s):
  • Chucky: We're friends 'til the end, remember? Andy: This is the end, friend.
  • Andy Barclay: Chucky says Aunt Maggie was a bitch and got what she deserved. Karen Barclay: Andy. How can you say something so horrible? Andy Barclay: I didn't say it, Chucky did.
  • Chucky: Hi, I'm Chucky. Wanna play?
  • Lady in Elevator: Ugly Doll. Chucky: Fuck you.
  • Chucky: Good night, asshole.
Movie Trivia:
  • Chucky's full name, Charles Lee Ray, is derived from the names of notorious killers Charles Manson, Lee Harvey Oswald, and James Earl Ray.
  • The babysitter's death scene originally had her being electrocuted while taking a bath. The scene was used later in Bride of Chucky (1998).
  • Original writer Don Mancini stated in an interview that his original script toyed with the audience a bit longer, making them wonder if young Andy was the killer rather than Chucky. This idea was used by Kevin Tenney in Pinocchio's Revenge (1996).
  • The name of the TV channel announcing the death of Charles Lee Ray at the beginning of the movie is W-DOL.
  • All of Brad Dourif's voice over work for Chucky was recorded in advance so they could match up Chucky's mouth with the words. Because of this, Brad Dourif rarely ever appeared on set during the "doll" scenes. Instead, recordings of his voice would be played back for Alex Vincent to go by.
