Horror Movies & Sci-Fi Movies Database

Mission To Mars (2000) Commander Luke Graham is selected to lead the first manned mission to Mars. Upon setting foot on the red planet, the team discovers an ancient, domelike structure which appears to be a beacon. The dome destroys the team and leaves Luke injured. The recently widowed Jim McConnell leads the rescue mission. When they arrive, they find Luke surprisingly alive, and he has spent the time alone learning the secrets of the mysterious construct. The question now becomes: do they enter the dome and answer humanity's oldest question, perhaps risking their lives in doing so, or return to Earth with what they do know and return in force with equipment and supplies?

More Movie Taglines:
  • Let There Be Life.
  • For centuries, we've searched for the origin of life on Earth...We've been looking on the wrong planet.
Movie Quote(s):
  • Woody Blake: You're just not man enough to wear jewelry.
  • Jim McConnell: There's pressure in here. Terri Fisher: Above Mars atmospheric? That's impossible. Jim McConnell: We're millions of miles from Earth inside a giant white face. What's impossible?
  • Terri Fisher: The genetic difference between men and apes is only three percent. But that three percent gave us Einstein, Mozart... Phil Ohlmyer: ...Jack The Ripper.
  • Luke Graham: Phil, do you read me? Phil Ohlmyer: Phil isn't here right now, he left for Earth FIVE MINUTES AGO, please leave a message after the beep!
  • Terri Fisher: When we get back, we have GOT to try this in the simulator...
Movie Trivia:
  • Gary Sinise plays an astronaut who's rejected for the mission but who steps in to save the day when the going gets tough - exactly like his character in Apollo 13 (1995).
  • A certain famous Disney star appears in one shot of the film. Momentarily as we see the Mars Recovery vehicle approach the planet, Mars itself, the rotating circular hub of the spaceship, and the round satellite dish sitting on its spine line up to form the friendly and familiar Mickey Mouse logo.
  • There were theme park attractions at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World called Mission to Mars. Both opened in 1975, but Disneyland's closed in November 1992, while the Magic Kingdom's ran until October of the next year.
  • Many of the props from this movie, including the big turning wheel set and the spacecraft model are now on display in the line queue area at the "Mission Space" ride at Epcot in Walt Disney World in Florida.
  • The communication viewscreen on Mars Recovery was built by Silicon Graphics (hence the abbreviation logo of SGI).
