Nuclear physicist Cal Meacham begins experiencing strange phenomena. First his plane has a burnout and just before it crashes, it is surrounded by a green glow and lands safely. Next he receives the parts for a strange device called an interroceter. When he assembles the device, it puts him into contact with an individual named Exeter. Exeter, then invites Cal to join a group of scientists on a secret research project. He then boards a remote controlled plane which takes him to a secret location. When he lands he meets old flame, Ruth Adams. They then go to a house where a secret lab is located. After Meacham meets his hosts he begins his work but soon he decides to escape with Ruth and fellow scientist Steve Carlson. During the escape attempt, Carlson is killed as well as several other scientists that were at the house. Cal and Ruth eventually discover that Exeter is an alien from the planet Metaluna and the reason they were kidnapped is to help Exeter and his people find a new source of energy to aid in their war with the warlike people of the planet Zagon. When they arrive on Metaluna, they meet the leader who informs them that the planet is on the verge of collapse and the only viable alternative is to move to Earth.

- [the cat appears] Dr. Ruth Adams: It's only Neutron. We call him that because he's so positive. [sic]
Dr. Cal Meacham: [to reporters] You boys like to call this the pushbutton age. It isn't, not yet. Not until we can team up atomic energy with electronics. Then we'll have the horses as well as the cart.
Joe Wilson: Half an hour late. That's my boss - the only guy in the world who can travel by jet and still be late.
Joe Wilson: Cal, I - I know everybody's seeing flying saucers and screwy lights up in the sky. Well, you can put me in the booby hatch too, because, so help me, I saw this ship turn a bright green up there. Dr. Cal Meacham: Are you sure, Joe? Joe Wilson: Positive. Dr. Cal Meacham: Did you hear anything? Joe Wilson: Yes. A high-frequency howl, very high, all the time your ship was... Dr. Cal Meacham: Green. Did Webb see it? Joe Wilson: Unless he's blind. Dr. Cal Meacham: Check him. Joe Wilson: Right. Dr. Cal Meacham: Oh, and Joe... until we find out what happened, all three of us were blind.
[a mysterious catalog is delivered] Dr. Cal Meacham: This isn't paper, it's some kind of metal! [reads] Dr. Cal Meacham: "Iterociter incorporating planetary generator. Iterociter with voltarator. With astroscope." Joe Wilson: Here's something my wife could use in the house. An "iterociter incorporating an electron sorter." Dr. Cal Meacham: Oh, she'd probably gain 20 pounds while it did all the work for her. You know, Joe, according to this, there's no limit to what it can do. Laying a 4-lane highway at the rate of a mile a minute would be a cinch. Joe Wilson: Cal... maybe we've been working too hard. Dr. Cal Meacham: "Complete line of iterociter parts, incorporating greater advances than hitherto known in the field of electronics." What exactly is an iterociter? Joe Wilson: I don't know, and I don't want to know. Dr. Cal Meacham: Well, I do. I want to know what it is and what it does. Order the list of parts on these pages.
- After Dr. Meacham has arrived at the secret lab in Georgia and the scientists are having a dinner, a woman comments the music playing at the background by saying: "Mozartti on oikein kaunista." This is Finnish and means "The music of Mozart is very beautiful."
The only woman from Metaluna seen in the film is played by Charlotte Lander, in her only screen appearance, at the control console for the decompression tubes on board the saucer.
A print of this film was loaned to MGM where another science fiction spectacle, Forbidden Planet (1956), was being prepared.
According to Faith Domergue, the pants of her costume were so skintight that she could not wear underwear. A female assistant had to help her put them on and take them off.
After the dinner at the secret facility, what the German scientist says is: "Ladies and gentlemen, the meal was excellent, but after Mozart's marvelous music I need to be alone with myself for a while. Good evening."
