Three horror anthology stories of tormented women. In the first story, Julie Eldridge is a sexually-repressed college teacher who is blackmailed by one of her students for a past indiscretion in which she played an unwilling part. But the student is unaware that Julie plots to turn the tables on him the first chance she gets. In the second story, Millicent Larimore is a plain-looking, almost reclusive woman who lives with her amoral twin sister Therese whom delights in tormenting her. However, only their doctor who visits from time to time knows the real thing behind the scene. In the final story, Amelia in a solo horror story monologue is a mother-dominated woman who buys an African Zuni fetish doll for her latest boyfriend in which the doll comes to life and terrorizes her in her own apartment.

- Amelia: This can't be happening! This can't be happening!
-
Amelia: [on the phone, threatened by a supernaturally animated Zuni hunting fetish doll] Operator, get me the police! I DON'T KNOW where I'm located, just get me the police, there's a... there's a... just get me the police, PLEASE?
-
[last lines] Amelia: This is Amelia, mom. I'm sorry I acted the way I did. I think we should spend the evening together, just the way we planned. It's kind of late though. Why don't you come by my place and we'll go from here? No, I'm all right! Good. I'll be waiting for you.

Movie Trivia:
- During the "Julie" segment, a drive-in theater can be seen showing the movie "The Night Stalker". This is an in-joke reference to director Dan Curtis's TV movie The Night Stalker (1972).
-
In the first segment, "Julie", when Chad goes to get a room, he uses the fake name of Johnathan Harker, a name taken from the Bram Stoker novel "Dracula".
-
Karen Black contributed much to the 3rd segment "Amelia". She re-wrote her first conversation with her mother on the telephone. Black wanted to emphasize that the mother was controlling and manipulative. The original words made the mother out to be too nice. Making the mother controlling of Amelia would make the audience more on her side when we realize what is going to happen to the mother when she comes to visit. Also when the doll is trying to escape from the suitcase the effects men could not figure how to show that Amelia is cut. Black thought to have them place the blood on her finger which she would hide from the camera until it was time to reveal the bloody finger.
-
The original Zuni doll puppet owned by director, Dan Curtis, was used for the new sculpts of the Zuni doll for the sequel, Trilogy of Terror 2.
-
SPOILER: The idea of grinning and showing fang-like teeth similar to the 'zuni' doll - the final and arguably the most chilling image in the film - actually came from Karen Black herself.
