Q: What drew you to the character of Alex, in BEAST?
I liked the fact that he was so low-key. Most of the roles I used to play were very over the top. Lately, I have been going for a calmer style. In particular, with Alex, I liked the fact that there was so much pain under the surface that was sooner or later going to be unleashed. Alex actually had no personality for much of the film - which actually presented a challenge - especially when your instinct is to be lively about every reaction. It's the Italian in me :)
Q: Was the movie shot in Germany and how was the shooting schedule?
It was shot almost entirely in Langelsheim, Germany (near Hanover) with a few scenes filmed in New York, New Jersey and L.A. The shooting schedule was fast! From April 10-20, 2008 and other pick up shots here and there. Approx 3 weeks total.
Q: This is the second Timo Rose movie you have been in, the other being BARRICADE? Being a director yourself, how is it working under another director? Is there anything you found that was very specific to that director?
Well, I direct very little. I am MOSTLY a producer and actor, and since most of the directors I work with are very different from one another, I more or less trust their instincts. Timo is more action-based and he is picky about certain things, but I find he leaves the acting instincts to the actor.
Q: Since your last interview, three years ago, you'd been in over half a dozen more movies, including BRAINCELL, ANGEL'S BLADE and DARKNESS SURROUNDS ROBERTA, all of which co-star Raine Brown. Is she your designated co-star?
She's my unofficial leading lady :) I met her on ANGEL'S BLADE and we just hit it off. We're great friends and one experience led to another. Sometimes I purposely had a project in mind for her - and other times, it was just a case of being in the right place at the right time.
Q: I also saw listed on IMDB that you're in BRIAN MICHAEL FINN: THE ANIMATED ANTHOLOGY COLLECTION. What the heck is that?
Brian Michael Finn worked on NIKOS THE IMPALER and has been preparing an animated drama for some time. My scenes have not been filmed yet, but I am ready when he is.
Q: What's on your plate in the near future?
I am doing little acting bits for now as I work on the post-production of BRAINCELL (due out this Halloween on DVD). I am trying to get a project for EILEEN DALY together called "MISS MACABRE" to be done in NYC. Mainly, raising funding for various projects, but as far as what will go before the cameras first -- is a matter of what seems to be what all my colleagues want to do - and what is feasible for the moment.
