Two sisters vacationing down in Mexico decide to go shark watching in a metal cage. They are talked into it by two local guys they meet. At first everything is cool, but once they begin to be lowered and see the Great Whites, the cable holding the cage snaps, plunging them down 47 meters to the bottom of the ocean floor. The massive sharks begin to circle them. The do have some battery powered lights and intermittent communication with a scuba mask intercom (otherwise, we wouldn't be able to see or hear anything!). Here, the movie becomes very much like OPEN WATER far more than JAWS.
Although the effects are convincing and the sharks suitably threatening I had problems with the human characters. I found the Mandy Moore character extremely irritating so didn't care if she got rescued or not. However, there is a decent twist ending that had me going for a few minutes. While 47 METERS DOWN is far better than any "Five and Dime" value shark movie on the Syfy Channel, it's nowhere as good as DEEP BLUE SEA.
