A trio of 'extreme Explorers' decide to go to Moscow to rediscover Stalins torture chamber and a forgotten Metro system. Two of them are a husband and wife, who recently lost their daughter to an abduction and the other member is the wife's brother.
Before they go on this trip, however, they do a test run on a building in Detroit, a scene which is replayed in bits and pieces throughout the rest of the movie. Just why this scene is repeated is somewhat obvious and before you can say 'Jacobs Ladder', you realize that this is one of those movies in which the character is already dead and doesn't know it yet.
The first hour is engaging and I liked all the multi-camera work between all the infrared and mini-cameras mounted on everyone. But that last half-hour, where things become much more obvious, is too long to wait/watch for the main character to 'get it'. Also, that title, AFTER, sort of gives it all away as well.
For "after you die movies" I recommend renting out JACOB'S LADDER and DARK RIDE instead.
