This is a low-key, post-Apocalypse movie that is like a serious version of The Croods, believe it or not.
Over a thousand years ago aliens made Earth uninhabitable for humans, sending hunters to kill them and modifying Earth's ecosystem to be extremely hostile to mankind. So humanity left, colonizing other worlds. But a soldier named Cypher and his teenaged son Kitai crash land on a planet--and realize it's long-lost earth. Cypher is critically injured and can't travel but the homing beacon to summon a rescue ship is in the other half of the ship--which crash landed a hundred miles away. It's up to Kitai to brave the wilderness--and an alien hunter--in order to survive. There are mutant baboons, giant birds, and extreme temperature differences he must overcome.
It's an entertaining, survival-type movie. Recommended.
