An odd re-telling of Herman Meville's MOBY DICK that takes place in a fantasy world where there are dragons. It begins with a young black man and his younger sister out in the woods who encounter a huge, white dragon--and she is killed. It doesn't eat her in one gulp, which it should--it just kills her, for no reason other than that it's mean. Then, we go to the present, where a soldier signs up to be crew on Ahab's ship, which is really more of a giant tank since it rolls over the ground, not the ocean. The adult Ahab (Danny Glover) is all scarred since that attack and can't even have his flesh exposed to daylight, it's so sensitive. He walks around in a long robe with a hood. And he's also crazy. In fact, that entire flashback sequence at the beginning really happened in a completely different way, which lends to Ahab's mental instability.
At first I thought this was cool, until I saw the stupid dragon slaying vehicle. Why not have it an ocean-going vessel and the dragons amphibious? That would have made a lot more sense. If you're curious for a weird mash-up you might find this movie interesting.
