It's the 1950's and an alien spaceship crash-lands out in the desert. A creature, which looks like a giant purple penis with tentacles, escapes and starts eating people. It dissolves them into gloopy puddles. Fortunately, a good alien was aboard and he
takes over the appearance of a local scientist Ted Lewis (Eric McCormack) in order to blend in with the local populace. A local waitress has a crush on Dr. Lewis and is more than willing to help him find this creature. Eventually she learns that he's really an alien, though she still falls for him.
The movie really does seem like a 1950's movie, though the special effects are much better. It's not funny at all, so I don't think the filmmakers intended it as a spoof. However, the movie has an introduction that indicates this is a "lost movie" from a fictional director and that it's finally being seen after half a century. DESTINATION MARS has an almost identical story line and gimick and is a far superior movie.
